The most critical interface
on a CNC cutting machine is right there
where the cutting tool meets the workpiece.
Everything else about the machine and
software is working to make that interface
as controlled and predictable as possible.
Each pass of a cutting edge takes off
a slice that needs to be the optimum thickness
for the material. Too thick and you risk
breaking the tool or a rough surface -
too thin and the tool wears prematurely
and generates excess heat. Dust or heat
is a sure sign of slow feed speed or high
rpm. You trade one off against the other.
